The film has slowly gained a cult following and now we have the version that Barker wanted to initially release.The original film was full of nice ideas that seemed underdeveloped but the director does a short interview at the start of this version explaining his motives for the director's cut (he states it was butchered by the studio originally) and what wanted to achieve and I think he largely succeeded.

The results are very good – much better than we could’ve expected from a composite cut and just as good as we should expect from a movie of its age.For years, Barker dreamed about finding it and creating a director's cut, and finally, Shout Factory provided him that opportunity. Michael Plumides helped convince Morgan Creek to allow the screening, and future screenings at other horror conventions and film festivals.
