The box was 16x16x16 and since there were eight squares across and down pictured I knew my squares would have to be 2×2. With my paper cutter ready to go I spent the next hour or so cutting up a bunch of squares. Velcro the head: The head, which ends up being pretty large relative to the body, needs to be secured in place to prevent it from inadvertently flopping off. We used some strips of 2" Velcro and Gorilla glued them to the body and underside of the head. The problem with Minecraft Steve is that there really aren't any action figures to measure (at least not in my house). There are, however, hundreds of papercraft templates out there on the web. Step one is to search for a high resolution template. This will give you every dimension you will need for every component to the body. It will also serve to provide the 'skins' for your boxes... but more about that later. Thank you so much for the wonderful graphics you created that are ready to print! It worked out perfectly on 11×17 paper. We have a very happy 6 year old, feeling ready for Halloween! I don’t need it to be that large (It’s for our 5 year old son). But, I think the 7 1/2 inch size will be too small.

Shoulder pads: Foam was also added under the top surface of the body to prevent the cardboard from digging into my son's shoulders. This significantly improved the comfort of the costume. Our Steve head was the perfect table decoration for his Minecraft party. It certainly did stand the test of time because it survived living in my son’s room for six years. Well worth the time it took! reddish brown (I see that I used red so I must not have been able to find reddish brown at Michaels) The printable is designed so that you can cut it out and “tile” it (laying each copy slightly over the next to make a finished piece) so I’d recommend maybe 11x17in paper, but print several sheets and then cut/glue them on to the box until it is covered. Hope that helps! Hand grips: Since the costume arm is much larger than the wearer's arm, we needed to add a feature that could be grabbed with your hand to keep the arm from falling off. We cut a U shape piece of styrofoam and glued it near the circular hole with liquid nails. This worked really well, and allows for maximum flexibility when defending yourself against creepers or mining for cobblestone.

Steve's arms are separate, mirror image pieces. They have one open side on the top inner side (facing his torso) so you can slip your arms through, and they are cut at the elbow for movement. Use your cardboard to make a long rectangle tube, the sides will be approximately 8" wide, the length will be approximately 2" shorter than your torso piece (leave extra length to make top flaps). Glue the tubes closed on the sides and cut and glue flaps closed on top, the bottom of the arm is left open so the wearer can use their hands. For years we have been trying to convince our kids that Halloween is all about making your costumes, not buying them. Sadly, this has fallen on deaf ears year after year after year. Our vision of what would be awesome and their vision of what would be awesome has never aligned... until now! Thank you Minecraft! Hi! I’ve done this steve head before a few years ago for my nephew, and now my son wants to be creeper head. I think on the steve head I did like a 14x14x14 box, and it left a little overlap on each side so everything went together good. This year I think Im gonna do maybe a 11x11x11 for my kiddo. What size should I print the file to make it overlaps each side? Im printing it at fedex so I dont have to ‘ piece ‘ them together. Thanks so much!

Steve was the hardest, as his face has 5 visible sides. I studied the in-game graphics and then created these in Illustrator in a HUGE size. That way those pixelly squares are crisp and clean and… well… not pixelly. Update: Before attaching your skins, tape all exposed seams on the cardboard with masking tape. This smoothes the transitions and covers the cut edges. Grab a square box that fits you or your child’s head. Print the base file, and apply it to all but the front side of the box. Print the face file and apply it to the front of the box. Cut out eye holes (choose one of the squares if you want it to be covert) and Voila! A creeper head costume! Wear all green and you are good to go. Perfect for the game-minded person in your life! Want the Minecraft Steve Head Template? Print and use it as a guide when gluing your pieces on the box. About: A mechanical engineer by training, but often seek out fun projects at home to satisfy my need to create stuff. I love halloween, cardboard projects, and attempting to teach my kids that making stuff is much mo…

If you have Adobe Illustrator ( free trial here), you can open the file up in it and select your size paper (making sure it corresponds to the paper size selected with your printer), then choose the "tile" option and select "imageable areas". For the head, this will print it out in 7 sheets if you're using legal sized paper. If you're using letter size, you'll need twice that. Anyway, got the box size to work. It might be a little small (Short) for our 5 year old, but it’s okay. It still works out.For people going BIG who need the full size, a copy shop with poster prints would definitely be the way to go! You’ve saved me the cost and hassle of buying a worse-quality Steve head for my son’s fancy dress outfit. So, I like Minecraft. You might has guessed as much after my DIY Creeper Peeps and Minecraft World Building Marshmallows. So it may not come as a surprise to you that one of our ideas for Halloween this year is to dress up like Steve (the player character) and a Creeper! Paint - I used 2 cans of Spray Paint from Home Depot for the royal blue pants and teal shirt. I also bought a handful of Acrylic paints in white/tan/beige/flesh from Hobby Lobby for the head. Get a bigger bottle of dark brown for the hair.

This project does take some time to do BUT it is really easy and it’s something you can your kids can do together. Thank you SO MUCH for this free printable! My daughter is in a play with her virtual drama club (I still don’t know how this play is going to go down). She is a Minecraft character. When her teacher asked if I could make her costume, I said SURE! before I really knew what I was getting into. I painted boxes last week with turned out to be a major fail. Your printable and my new boxes will hopefully save the day. I appreciate you!The fourth side surface is added and again attached with cardboard angles. If my cardboard sheet were large enough, I would have made this just fold down from the top surface. Additionally, if you want to be a little more authentic, use a rectangular box as a chest. I’ve included a texture to print and paste onto the chest box to mimic the Creeper’s chest. That’s going all out!
